Botanique, Your Gold Coast Answer to Quality Flowers and World Peace

Flowers are a symbol for many things. We utilize flowers on many occasions including holidays and anniversaries. We send flowers to those we love, we send flowers to those who just lost a loved one and we send flowers to those who are not well because we want them happy and healthy. Flowers are a universal symbol for a varied number of reasons. Almost universally, flowers symbolize peace. The origin of this idea of flowers as a symbol of peace can be traced back to the 1960s in America.

While organizing his 1965 protest against the Vietnam War, beat poet and counterculture leader Alan Ginsburg propagated the concept of flower power. You see, students at the University of California in Berkeley requested suggestions on how to confront the Hell’s Angels motorcycle gang in a peaceful manner. The gang both supported the war and threatened violence against the protest. Ginsburg penned an essay suggesting students defuse any potential violent situation with flowers.

The war protest at Berkeley included protesters handing out flowers to members of the Hell’s Angels, press people and onlookers. There remains the iconic photograph of a protester placing a flower in the barrel of the gun held by a National Guardsman. Thanks to these events, flower power transitioned from a protest tool to a full-blown style of life. Flowers are peace; flowers represent non-violence and tolerance.

Perhaps you should learn from history. Take a page from Ginsberg’s essay and send flowers as a gesture of goodwill to somebody with whom you want to repair a relationship. Botanique is your Gold Coast answer to quality flowers and world peace.
