Gold Coast Florist Tips: Caring For Fresh Cut Roses

Roses are one of the most thoughtful gifts that you can send. Roses are fragrant, colorful, and beautiful. Unfortunately, soon after they are cut, they begin to wilt. While there is no way to keep your cut roses fresh indefinitely, there are tips from your Gold Coast florist on how to extend their beauty.

First it is important that you check on your flowers daily. When flowers are cut they begin to absorb water very quickly. Keeping your fresh cut roses in clear, clean, and nutrient rich water is one of the best ways to extend their life. If you are changing the water out completely, you should wash the vase as well. Make sure that you are adding in fresh flower food after your water change. Properly mixing this fresh flower food into the vase will help nourish your fresh flowers. This food also contains minerals that help keep bacteria from building up in the water. Less bacteria means longer lasting flowers.

It is quite important that you trim your rose stems. This job should be completed every other day. Use a sharp pair of garden shears to cut (at an angle) between ¾”-1”. Trimming the stems at an angle will allow for proper water absorption. If your shears are dull they will do far more damage than good. Clean cuts are the best for longevity.

Last but certainly not least, keep your flowers out of direct sunlight. Direct sunlight and warm temperatures may cause your flowers to dry out. Visit your Gold Coast florist, Botanique, for more tips on how to keep your fresh-cut flowers gorgeous for longer!
