Part 3: Expert Gold Coast Florist Orchid Care Tips

The final article in the Orchid care series will focus on the proper hygiene and transplant tips for your Orchid. Botanique, your Gold Coast Florist can help you with your love of horticulture. Find the perfect Orchid to complete your collection and learn how to keep them beautiful all year long. Orchids do not have to be intimidating to care for ever again.

The fragility of Orchids has already been mentioned in previous posts. They should be treated as a living being that thrives in warm, mildly-humid conditions. Remember, bacteria and fungi colonize at warm, humid temperatures. With this in mind, you need to practice the proper grooming techniques for your Orchid. A well-ventilated growing location will decrease the likelihood of disease. Placing the plant under a ceiling fan, and out of direct sunlight will simulate a breezy, natural climate. Some variety of Orchid have roots that photosynthesize. These should be repotted into a clear container with proper drainage. If your Orchid does not need their roots exposed to sunlight, non-porous pots with proper drainage are the best. Be sure to re-pot your Orchid in the proper substrate (porous soil-find it at your local garden center.) You should never plant your Orchid in vegetable soil.

Orchid will continue to grow and thrive if they are taken care of correctly. Your Gold Coast florist recommends that you transplant your Orchid to avoid root compression. You need to transplant your Orchid immediately if they have overgrown their current pot, no longer drain after a watering, or if the plant has become infected. It is recommended that you do not repot your Orchid while it is flowering. The best time is during their rest periods (after flowers have fallen.)

If there are questions that were not answered within this series please ask your Gold Coast florist for answers. We enjoy the beauty of an Orchid and hope you will too!
